THE NNA FESTIVAL HAS BEEN MOVED TO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th because of the forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorms on Saturday!! REPEAT - THE NNA FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th because of the forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorms on Saturday, Sept. 6th!! So we'll se you at the NNA Festival this Sunday from 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm!! The Newport Neighborhood Assn. Inc. ("NNA") is hosting its second annual International Cultural Festival, the only multi-ethnic event of the summer in Jersey City. The Festival will be held on Sunday, September 7th on Town Square Place (the old Pavonia Avenue) across from the Pavonia Newport Path Station from 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The NNA is excited to present an array of talent never before seen on the Newport stage and Jersey City waterfront. First, we're honored and thrilled to bring Rock N Roll Hall of Famer John Sebastian of Lovin' Spoonful fame as the Festival's headliner. Also performing will be Broadway star and recording artist N'Kenge, a multi-talented soul singer; Newport resident and music producer David Musial's Canadian born singer/songwriter Brady Cudmore, who will be backed by Jersey City Arts High School band "The Reminiscents." We are delighted that OLE Restaurant is presenting the passion and romance of Flamenco guitar, song and dance with a performance by Flamenco of NY. Also appearing is Anejo, a Latin band led by Newport employee Willie Maldonado, a singer whose vocals capture the sentiments of Anejo's songs. Re-appearing from last year's hit Festival are the electric Ayesha's Bollywood Funk NYC dance troupe, Newport resident and magician The Magic of Harold J, the Filipino-inspired dance of The Dance Theatre Ensemble of NJ and Muhammad Bilal's Childrens' Classical Music Ensemble. This year's Festival is a Charity Benefit to raise funds for the NNA to meet one of the community's central goals, a business branch library of the Jersey City Public Library. As such, this year's Opening Ceremony will focus on this important community goal by pointing attendees to the NNA Silent Auction table. The Festival will also have Raffles. including an expensive TV donated by SEARS and a 50/50 Raffle. We hope you'll be generous in your support of this tremendous community goal by bidding on the vast array of items donated by Jersey City's finest merchants and artists and by purchasing Raffle tickets. The NNA Festival is pleased to promote the donated works of two extraordinary Jersey City artists Duda Penteado and Habib Ayat. The NNA is also pleased to have so many cultures represented by the select restaurants that will be serving their wares at a reasonable price at this year's Festival, as well as a number of local merchants who will have sponsored tables for your enjoyment. There will also be arts & crafts, healing arts & fun for kids. Come enjoy the Festival, bring the kids and help us build a business branch library on the downtown waterfront. |
